We match by hand, looking at languages, level, time zone and interests. If there's no match yet, you stay in the pool and we contact you as soon as there is.

We introduce you to each other by email or WeChat.

Practice your way
You two decide how often to meet and what to talk about. If anything goes wrong, contact us anytime.

Community guidelines
Everyone agrees to these before being matched:
- Respect each other's culture, customs and time.
- The program is completely free — no money, sales or financial transactions of any kind.
- No fraud, harassment or inappropriate behavior.
- Be honest about yourself and communicate kindly.
- If something feels wrong, stop and tell BALA right away.
- Participants must be 18 or older.
BALA introduces partners but does not take part in or monitor private conversations. Please use good judgment, meet in public places, and never share financial information.

Is it really free?
Yes. It's a free community program — there are no fees at any point.
What level do I need?
Any level. Beginners are welcome.
How long until I'm matched?
It depends on who is in the pool for your language pair. If there's no match yet, we keep you in the waiting pool and contact you as soon as there is.
Online or in person?
Up to you and your partner.
Can I ask for a different partner?
Of course. Just let us know and we'll do our best.
